System Engineering
The last years, principals are often demanding that a contractor uses System engineering. New contract appearances like Design Build Finance and Maintain are used more often. System engineering is a standardised method for engineering of (mostly complex) projects or systems. Currently this method is used quite often on infrastructural projects.
Always meet the the client’s requirements
System engineering is founded on client defined requirements, entered in a requirements tree. Based on these requirements, functions are defined and saved in a function tree. The object tree results from both functions tree and requirements tree, and describes the objects to realise. Based on these objects, activities, required for the objects’ realisation, can be defined.
Base for work packages
From within the objects tree and activity tree, work packages can be defined, to be considered for execution. Work packages can be estimated, scheduled and executed.
Integrated estimation
Objects and estimation can be fully integrated. Estimates can be generated from an objects tree and changed afterwards by an estimator. The objects linked to an estimate item, are always visible. The result: Insight into the specification of the objects linked to an estimate item is always provided.
Integrated planning
Object data can also be used to generate a project’s planning. This comes in handy if a global planning is required in an early stage.
Verifications
A very important part of System engineering is verifying and validating various final products. Ticon can generate verification models and documents automatically.
Engineering model always up to date
Engineering models are changing continuously. The integrated ‘version control environment’ provides insight in the object’s history. It will always be traceable what has been changed, by whom and when.
